Alot depends on your definition of cosmetic.They might be inclined to put more checks on corporate excesses of exploitation and environmental destruction. They will be less inclined towards "primitive accumulation" and more willing to use tools like development aid and trade to line their pockets.They will still need oil and a place to invest their profits.
I don't know why, but I'm more worried of this new congress than I was of the Republican one. I have very serious doubts, especially regarding foreign policies.
I don't understand the point of this poll unless it is to test the faith in the US to do anything right in the voters mind.
Unless the democrats latch onto that corner of the rug under which Bush has tried to sweep his crimes that this midterm election peeled back and keep the momentum of change going by peeling it all the way off the floor by repealing the military commissions act of 2006 and homeland security and withdraw from the exploitative wars right away, it will never happen.
Germany is going to bring Rumsfeld to answer for his part, we'll see. Nancy Pelosi has gone all bipartisan after getting elected by calling Bush a lying criminal, by taking impeachment off the table — there's a pretty good hint of the democrat's effectiveness.
I for one dispise my congress and my current president! These individuals have lost touch with reality and how the normal, average citizen lives. They are in it only for themselves; the perks!
The recent change by way of "vote" will do nothing to change anything in my humble opinion. Sure, at first things may appear to go good but, once the gold color tanrish wears down, what you have is more of the same.
For lack of a better word..."fuck" them all!

An old comrade said once that elections are like an instant picture of reality, but deformed. You can only know what it shows if you can read the sings well and most important, read between lines. We all know that both democrats and republicans are the same thing. Looks like it didnt change anything and probably wont. What this elections mean, is that people in the usa wanted to punish that megalomaniac tyrant ape. Too bsd the usa has a 2 party system. Things would be different if there were a revolutionary party over there.
