Not What Some Would Have One Believe
ever consider the fact that in rich industrial states like US and Canada more actions are considered deviant than in say, mexico
Yes Gil, that might occur to someone from the US and thus unable to see that nation for what others know. There may however be some truth in explanation that crime is considered differently there and in Mexico, where it is not taken as simply the way things are. Consider the following example.
CONTRAST OF HONOR - JAIL TO THE CHIEF or HAIL TO THE THIEF
A few years ago a refinery leaked gasoline into sewer lines in the northeast section of Guadalajara, Jalisco, a city comparable to Chicago. Fumes were reported but not investigated. The resulting explosion destroyed a large area and killed hundreds. The mayor of Guadalajara and the head of public works honorably accepted responsibility and were immediately imprissoned. The governor of the state of Jalisco fled the country in exile. The president also later exiled in disgrace.
Truman stated "The buck stops here".
Recently a couple of airplanes flew into and destroyed buildings in New York, killing thousands. Officials had been forwarned but refused to honestly investigate, let alone consider causes. The Mayor and President immediately became TV stars orchestrating soaring popularities while placing responsibility on someone in a poor country, which was then invaded.
They claimed "The buck stops there".
Though our pasts have not crossed for quite a while, and when they did, we were often at odds in topic similar to the comments here, it is good to see you involved with the organizing efforts of LA Solidarity. We'll take all the organizing help we can get.
