Whistleblower Letter

This letter to the US government signed by more than 50 European parliament members expresses concern over Bradley Manning's treatment in custody

To:

US President Barack Obama, Members of the US Senate, Members of the US House of Representatives, US secretary of defence Leon Panetta, US secretary of the army John McHugh, US army chief of staff Raymond T Odierno

As members of the European parliament, who were elected to represent our constituents throughout Europe, we are writing to express our concerns about alleged human rights violations against Bradley Manning, a young soldier who has been accused of releasing classified information pertaining to possible US war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. We are concerned that the US army has charged Bradley Manning with "aiding the enemy," a capital offence that is punishable by death. We have questions about why Mr Manning has been imprisoned for 17 months without yet having had his day in court. We are troubled by reports that Mr Manning has been subjected to prolonged solitary confinement and other abusive treatment tantamount to torture. And we are disappointed that the US government has denied the request of the United Nations special rapporteur on torture to meet privately with Mr Manning in order to conduct an investigation of his treatment by US military authorities.

We call upon the United States government to allow Juan Méndez, the United Nations special rapporteur on torture, to conduct a private meeting with Bradley Manning, the accused WikiLeaks whistle-blower. Mr Méndez has made repeated requests to American officials to meet privately with Mr Manning in response to evidence that he was subjected to abusive confinement conditions while he was detained at a facility in Quantico, Virginia. Mr Manning was held in solitary confinement for 23 hours per day during the eight months he was incarcerated at that location. It appears that he was at times forced to sleep and stand at attention without any clothing. His legal counsel has documented additional incidents which indicate the possibility of other rights violations.

Hundreds of US legal scholars have signed an open letter to the Obama administration, arguing that the conditions of confinement endured by Mr Manning at Quantico may have amounted to torture. Following worldwide calls for an end to the abusive treatment, Manning was moved to a facility in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where his conditions are said to have improved. The US military conducted an internal investigation into the allegations of mistreatment at Quantico. The preliminary results of this investigation found that Mr Manning was improperly placed on "prevention of injury" status, against the recommendations of qualified medical personnel. However, these findings were ultimately overturned by a military prison official who was implicated by the report. Therefore, the US military's internal investigation has been compromised by clear conflicts of interest. This so-called "prevention of injury" status was the justification for a number of extraordinary measures, such as denying Mr Manning comfortable bedding and not allowing him to exercise.

By preventing UN officials from carrying out their duties, the United States government risks undermining support for the work of the United Nations elsewhere, particularly its mandate to investigate allegations of torture and human rights abuses. In order to uphold the rights guaranteed to Bradley Manning under international human rights law and the US constitution, it is imperative that the United Nations special rapporteur be allowed to properly investigate evidence of rights abuses. PFC Manning has a right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment. People accused of crimes must not be subjected to any form of punishment before being brought to trial.

Finally, we in the European Union are totally opposed to the death penalty. And we certainly do not understand why an alleged whistleblower is being threatened with the death penalty, or the possibility of life in prison. We also question whether Bradley Manning's right to due process has been upheld, as he has now spent over 17 months in pre-trial confinement.

Furthermore, Bradley Manning should not be forced to waive his right against self-incrimination in order to speak with anyone who seeks to investigate evidence of abuse in their official capacity.

Consistent with these internationally recognised standards, as well as the rules governing his mandate, United Nations special rapporteur on torture Juan Méndez must be allowed to conduct an unmonitored meeting with Bradley Manning, without any further delay.

Yours sincerely,

Waging War

Final Ways The Bankster

Occupied U.S. Government

Is Waging War Against America

by Saman Mohammadi Saturday, November 26, 20119

Part I: 9 Ways The Hijacked Federal Government Is Waging War Against The American People.

Part II: 9 More Ways The U.S. Government Is Waging War Against America.

1. Ideology.

There is a dictatorship of the mind and spirit in America. The official ideology of the U.S. totalitarian state is counter-terrorism and national security. All domestic and foreign crimes are justified under the umbrella of security and defense. The false flag September 11 attacks served as the catalyst that brought this totalitarian ideology into being on a world stage.

The attacks also had the effect of putting the American people into a psychological state of subservience towards the government and power elite. As a result, the free will of the American people has been destroyed. The minds of the people are directed at non-existent terrorists like Al Qaeda and non-threatening countries like Iraq and Iran for one single purpose: to generate insecurity in the individual so that he/she supports the false and permanent war on terror.

Hans Barth wrote in his 1939 essay called, "Reality and Ideology of the Totalitarian State," that, "a people completely unified by a totalitarian policy and wholly integrated as a spiritual body, thus offering a foundation for a totalitarian state, is nothing but a flexible instrument for the use of the commander-in-chief in the pursuit of the totalitarian war," (Barth (1939); The Review of Politics, Volume 1, Issue 03, Pg. 275-306).

The voice of dissent and 9/11 truth is the only way to break the totalitarian conditioning of the American people and the people of other Western countries.
2. Paradigm.

What exists in Washington is one party dictatorship with two political factions. Super committee or no super committee, republican or democrat, the will of the power elite will prevail over the will of the people under the current system.

The false left-right political paradigm enables the power elite to remain in control and continue to loot America without being discovered as the real enemy of the American people.

The one party dictatorship also means that there is no accountability for the political leadership. Both Republicans and Democrats have stabbed America in the back. This political fact has led to the collapse of the American people's trust in the federal government and Congress.

What lies ahead is social unrest, political collapse, and revolution.

3. Militarization.

Militarized cities are occupied cities.

Urban space is regulated by the hijacked government not to defend the interests of the public but to acquire greater power for the treasonous elite and suppress patriotic dissent.

Essentially, the power elite have turned public space into an urban war zone. An atmosphere of war is created in the public mind, giving the mentally occupied individual two choices: either side with the loving and protective government, or the dangerous and scary domestic terrorists.

Stephen Graham, author of "Cities Under Siege: The New Military Urbanism," said in a recent interview on Democracy Now about the militarization of the police and the violent government reaction to anti-Wall Street protesters:

Well, there’s been a longstanding shift in North America and Europe towards paramilitarized policing, using helicopter-style systems, using infrared sensing, using really, really heavy militarized weaponry. That’s been longstanding, fueled by the war on drugs and other sort of explicit campaigns. But more recently, there’s been a big push since the end of the Cold War by the big defense and security and IT companies to sell things like video surveillance systems, things like geographic mapping systems, and even more recently, drone systems, that have been used in the assassination raids in Afghanistan and in Pakistan and elsewhere, as sort of a domestic policing technology. It’s basically a really big, booming market, particularly in a world where surveillance and security is being integrated into buildings, into cities, into transport systems, on the back of the war on terror.
Will Grigg, author of "Liberty in Eclipse," has written about the militarization of the police in America for a number of years. In an interview with Scott Horton of Antiwar Radio on November 22, Grigg said:

"With respect to where we are now with the crackdown on Occupy Wall Street, take a look at the way the enforcers are garbed, take a look at the techniques they use. We're living in what is essentially a prison society."
In the prison society that Grigg talks about, the police officer is a guard and the citizen is an inmate who is considered guilty and a potential violent threat to the state. The rule of law is not defended. Instead, police officers are brainwashed and used to rape the public in the name of security.

4. Culture.

The manipulation of mass culture by the elite is part of a larger war against the mental integrity of the individual and the free will of the people. The whole edifice of mainstream culture in the West is designed to control thought and speech. As Terence McKenna said, "Culture is not your friend . . .It insults you, it disempowers you, it uses and abuses you. None of us are well treated by culture. And yet we glorify the creative potential of the individual, the rights of the individual. We understand the felt-presence of experience is what is most important. But the culture is a perversion."

The culture that is being produced creatively by the alternative media, underground music, and other cultural avenues is countering the official totalitarian culture that is handed down by authoritarian governments, corporate elites, and the treasonous media. The harm that the official culture is doing to the average individual cannot be overstated. State propaganda and predictive programming techniques are regularly used in T.V. programming and films to control behavior and thoughts. People have been turned into animals under this psychological prison system.

The most important element of culture is storytelling. Stories connect us with our past, inform our present actions, and point the way towards the future.

In America, the power of storytelling has been hijacked and misused by the controllers of the U.S. government to indoctrinate the people of the world and destroy freedom of thought. The assassination of JFK and the terrorist attacks on 9/11 have overturned the American constitutional system of government, as well as other Western democratic governments, but the official stories about these events that are told in mainstream culture hide the true nature of these evil crimes.

5. Drugs.

Pharmaceutical drugs are promoted and sold by the government and television, but natural drugs are suppressed and persecuted. Many of these natural drugs have the effect of opening the individual's minds to amazing experiences and new conceptions of life and the universe.

The mind is liberated from the routine of everyday life and everyday thoughts when natural drugs like mushrooms are taken, and this experience has political implications, as McKenna said. When people start seeing the world in a different light they don't go back to believing in the fictions and fantasies of the mainstream matrix. The road to intellectual discovery opens up, and the individual begins to search for answers to both personal and political questions.

6. Fear.

Creating fear and chaos is the modus operandi of the U.S. shadow totalitarian state, and of all totalitarian states. Fear is the blood that keeps the fascist state going. The governments of Iran and Israel use the same political playbook against their citizens as the hijacked American government.

Keeping the people in a state of fear and mental insecurity enables political leaders and the criminal power elite to remain in a dominant position in society.

The pumping up of external enemies is the best way to keep the people submissive and scared. But enemies don't fall out of the sky. Enemies in modern totalitarian nations like Iran and America are made by political elites who painstakingly design a propaganda-oriented society that is constantly fed lies and disinformation.

Propaganda, however, is not enough to generate fear about an outside enemy. The manufacturing of dramatic events like the 9/11 attacks, 7/7 attacks, and the Iranian hostage crisis are necessary to create the image of the external enemy in the public mind of a nation.

There is nothing like drama and fear. 9/11 showed that slow-moving societies need explosive and dramatic acts of murder if they are to be moved in a certain direction by political elites in a short period of time. Without drama, without blood, without fear, without murder, without creating a public spectacle, elites cannot attain their dreams of war and revolution.

Fear shuts down critical thinking and makes people even more stupid than they already are, which is why the religious zealots in Iran and the globalist terrorists in the West both use fear as a political tool.

7. Language.

"Presidential power is the power to persuade." – Richard Neustadt
"When the president speaks, he governs." – Sandra Silberstein
"Language is apparently a sword which cuts both ways. With its help man can conquer the unknown; with it he can grievously wound himself." - Stuart Chase
In a democratic society, citizens use language to define collective priorities and interests, but in the current totalitarian hell that we live in the collective use of language has been hijacked by private interests in the pursuit of private ends.
The Western shadow states and establishment media are misusing language to suppress thought, control the political conservation about 9/11 and the war on terror, and alter cultural beliefs about the freedom of the individual.
The thought police in the totalitarian state love the magic of words because it can shape public perceptions about major events, political figures, and dissidents.
I am fascinated by the power of words. With one simple line, astronaut Neil Armstrong marked the official beginning of the space age. A couple of political slogans helped an inexperienced state senator from Illinois become the President of the United States.
McKenna said that language creates reality. This happened in the immediate hours and days after the 9/11 attacks, when American and Israeli politicians, "journalists," and national security experts went on television and used the power of the global communication system to put out the false narrative that Al-Qaeda was responsible for the terrorist act.

I was too young to remember what was said in television news reports and newspapers, but I've seen many video clips on the Internet of news anchors and special guests speaking on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, CBC, BBC, and other news networks about the significance of the attacks. It is clear that the Zionist criminals, Neocon terrorists and shadow CIA traitors were not wasting any time. They seized the day on 9/11. It was the opportunity of a lifetime for any fascist and totalitarian leader.

Three thousand dead innocent Americans, New York City's skyline destroyed, the Pentagon attacked -- these dramatic pictures were created and politically exploited by the merchants of death in D.C. and Israel -- but pictures are not enough in a time of crisis -- words are also needed.

9/11 Commission director Philip Zelikow spelled it out in a lecture in Houston earlier this month called, "The Twilight of War." Zelikow said: "It’s my job to make meaning of 9/11." This lowlife also said that the CIA manufactured Al-Qaeda "is the enemy," and that they "are an unslayable power." LOL. This traitor relishes his role as the destroyer of America and the bringer of death and pain. He likes the thought of sending the shining knights in the American military to slay fabricated dragons abroad. It gives him something to do. The snake-like teller of lies is his station in life. He couldn't be a doctor, an architect, or a taxi driver, so he settled for being a war criminal.

8. Stigma.

The power of social stigma, shame, and ridicule cannot be overstated. Society is governed in this matter by criminal rulers who don't like to use force to dominate the people and keep their privileges.

In totalitarian societies, truth-tellers are treated like outcasts and driven outside of the community while the biggest liars and mass murderers lead the nation. This is the case in America, Iran, Israel, England, and many other countries.

America and Iran became full-scale totalitarian nations in the 1980s, when Reagan and Khomeini, two power-craving traitors, came to dominate the political scene in both countries thanks to much larger forces that put them in power.

Instead of being shamed for using violent rhetoric, attaining power illegally, and sponsoring backdoor arms deals, Khomeini and Reagan were glorified and raised to the status of heroes.

Both totalitarian leaders molded themselves as "revolutionaries" but they were not revolutionaries. They were destroyers and traitors. Khomeini followed the orders of his masters and destroyed Iran. And Reagan did the same to America, with Bush standing right beside him to make sure he didn't suddenly have a change of heart about committing treason against America.

Even today these two puppets are seen in a heroic light. The statues of Reagan and Khomeini are embraced as god-like by their deluded and brainwashed cult followers.

In a just world, unjust men like Khomeini, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Cheney, Bush II, and Obama would not just be shamed, but hanged, and buried in the sea.

But the reverse is happening.

Murderers and traitors like Reagan, Khomeini, Bush, and Obama are called saviors of the nation and defenders of freedom, while real heroes are shamed and ridiculed as "paranoid conspiracy theorists," and "domestic terrorists."

Millions of truth-tellers in America and the West are silenced and stigmatized. In Iran they are tortured and murdered.

Ron Paul is stigmatized as "loony" for advocating freedom in America and peace in the Middle East, but the sociopathic madmen who hijacked the Republican party and call for total world war are given the most media attention.

The weapon of social stigma as wielded by the establishment media can make people not listen to the wise Ron Paul, but instead, make them blindly follow psychopathic leaders like Barack Obama and his Republican foes to the point of complete destruction.

9. Secrecy.

"We have a system of runaway secrecy," said historian and author Richard Dolan in his lecture about the U.S. government's cover-up of UFOs in April 2011 in Amsterdam called, "Secret Space Program And Breakaway Civilization."

The secrecy of the hijacked U.S. government is its essential feature. Almost every public statement and public policy initiative is meant for global public consumption. I wrote an article in June that contained a quote from a U.S. government official named Edmond Taylor who said that U.S. government policy has two levels, "the esoteric and the exoteric."

The esoteric side is guarded from the American public, low-level government employees, and even high-ranking military and intelligence officials.

The power of the secret and informal government in Washington is beyond imagination. Dolan says the secret-holders have become a "breakaway civilization."

Over the decades, the secret-holders and power elite have broken their psychological ties to regular reality. Their emotional separation with the people of the world is total and complete. They do not consider themselves as part of our world.

Cutting political ties with the American constitutional government and Western democracies is the next step. And they have been very busy building a global fascist government in the shadows so this step is not as difficult as it was in the past.

Day The Dollar Falls

In Dutch with English subtitles. Note that this program contained a warning already issued in 2005, long before the "official" economic crisis we experience today when many were still in denial. No preparations and no precautions were made by the government to prevent the upcoming financial crisis.

Thanksgiving:

From Noble Origins to Pig-Out Fest

Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey
Pravda.Russia

How many Americans, as they sit stuffing themselves stupid today around their Thanksgiving meal tables, insulting the noble principles of Christianity or Islam or Judaism by invoking God's name and then praising the US Armed Forces for their acts of murder overseas, know the origins of this festivity?

The contrast could not be more striking: between three hundred million Americans sitting around their meal tables stuffing themselves with turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, washed down with litres of beer or carbonated fizzy drinks gaping open-mouthed and mindlessly at the TV set watching the football game with a slither of spit dribbling down their bloated chins, occasionally bursting into ra!ra!ra! choruses of jingoistic orgasms as they celebrate the heroic feats of their boys overseas, cowards who murder innocent children from 30,000 feet as they implement Washington's Missile Diplomacy...and the noble precepts of Thanksgiving.

Like all festivities at this time of year, the tradition the Americans celebrate today is a mixture of historical fact and mysticism based around the precept of sharing and the principles celebrated on Thanksgiving Day (the last Thursday in November, implemented by Abraham Lincoln in 1863 after George Washington has stipulated that the National Day of Thanksgiving for Independence should be November 26) are not very different from the sharing festivals celebrated in Europe around the same time of year (for different reasons and with differing names but the same basis), such as Saint Martin's Day.

As for Thanksgiving, the story goes that the first European settlers arrived in Massachusetts too late in the year in 1620 to begin a harvest and half of them starved to death or died through disease. Seeing their plight, the native Americans from the Iroquois tribe helped them out by teaching them to hunt and fish and how to grow the crops peculiar to that region. Among these crops were corn (maize), pumpkins, beans and barley and the first harvest in Autumn of 1621 was bountiful so to thank the Indians for their help, the settlers threw a feast, inviting around one hundred Native Americans and their chief, preparing dishes with the crops they had harvested. The Indians brought wildfowl with them, among these turkeys. It is said that the settlers made a sauce out of the cranberries...

How much of this story is true and how much was added on afterwards makes no difference. The thank-you note to the Indians in the forthcoming years was unfortunately what we know, talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

However, one thing is policy, the other is the people and it is of course obvious that today's American citizens are not to blame for their country's murderous and genocidal origins. Yet thinking back to that first Thanksgiving and its beginnings, does this not provide food for thought?

Instead of careering around the world inventing wars based on lies, breaking the UN Charter, UN Resolutions, the Geneva Conventions and every rule in the annals of diplomacy, murdering innocent people, destroying property, torturing, stealing, urinating in food, setting dogs on people, committing sodomy, could the Government of the United States of America and those who represent it not take a leaf out of the book of those Iroquois? Suppose Washington honoured the name of its first President instead of insulting it by handing the USA's foreign policy over to Tel Aviv and suppose Washington started a process of introspection, taking a look at itself from outside to see what a monster it has become?

Suppose Washington distributed aid from a stance of humility, for instance, and did not pander to the eye of the camera with sacks of grain stamped with the stars and stripes and the letters US FOOD AID for all to see? Suppose Washington, if indeed it wishes to help people overseas, followed the principle of development and not deployment? Suppose Washington dismantled its military bases strewn half-way around the globe at an astronomical cost to the American taxpayer while generations of terrorists are created growing up on a diet of anti-US hatred and suppose Washington forgot once and for all the Missile Shield on Russia's doorstep?

Suppose Washington used debate and discussion and dialogue as its tools in diplomacy and not bullying and blackmail and belligerence? And suppose the people of the USA held the leaders of their country to account when the President and his crew turn out to be a bunch of liars and war criminals, suppose foreign policy becomes tied up with the election process, garnering firm commitments on how US resources are going to be applied abroad - for although domestic policy is the force which drives an election, the two are intrinsically bound together.

Those of us outside the United States of America believe that the American people are good people, they care for others, they have a community-based approach, they have the tremendous ability to laugh at themselves, they have centers of excellence in their Schools and in just a few centuries, with the help of the French, they built a powerful nation with the ability to make a difference.
Yet what I say above is the mirror image of the hearts and minds of the rest of humankind, make no mistake about it. For those who read these lines, have a Happy Thanksgiving, remember its noble beginnings and try to do something to bring us all together in a climate of peace and understanding, for the hawks in your regime, on both sides of the Party divide, are moving steadily towards Armageddon. Remember to tell the kids that as they wave and cheer at the Thanksgiving Day parades. After all, it's their future as well as ours. God Bless!

Drug Cartels Rule

Mexico and USA

Ruled by Drug Cartels

Anatoly Miranovsky Pravda.Ru

Drug cartels rule Mexico. Those criminal structures are like transnational corporations. They produce and distribute drugs in Mexico and enjoy their undivided reign in the country. Los Zetas cartel is a special phenomenon in Mexico. The cartel was literally created and developed by US special services.

The unique criminal group originally appeared as a military structure. The group appeared to support the activities of Cartel del Golfo. During the 1990s, Golfo was luring military men and officers of special police units of the country - GAFE (Groupo Aeromovil de Fuerzas Especiales) and BFP airborne brigade of the Mexican army.

All the deserters, who made the core of Los Zetas, were trained at the bases of the USA's CIA and then at the so-called School of South America (Escuela de las Americas) of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation. The institute trains military elite for the US-controlled regimes in Latin America, stressing out the suppression of guerrilla movements and the struggle against the distribution of drugs.

The servicemen from the special forces of Guatemala, also the CIA-trained men, joined the group of former military men later. After the USA did away with Colombian drug baron Pablo Escobar, the logistics of drug shipments changed considerably. The Mexicans took the command of the group. They used to send the Colombian cocaine to the United States, but then they began to dictate their conditions to Colombian drug makers.

SharePrint version Font Size Send to friendCartels were developing, but the leaders of the international drug business did not want to unite into one supercartel or alliance. They eventually decided to use an old-fashioned way of struggling with rats on board. They established the rat-eater. Zetas, whose members were trained in the US commando-training centers, became the rat-eater that would destroy both cartels and the remnants of the Mexican state structure to please the master.

In 1999, after the arrest of the leader of Cartel del Golfo, Zetas showed that they were capable of running business alone. They used brutal methods in struggling with their competitors. Beheading people and then dumping the decapitated and dismembered bodies in public places was a common thing for them to do. One may find videos of such blood-chilling executions on the Internet. They cut people's heads either fast - with the help of a chainsaw - or slowly - with a machete.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared a war on the drug mafia. As many as 45,000 people have been killed in the clashes between Mexican cartels and government troops. Another war between Zetas and Golfo started in the beginning of 2010 in the north of Mexico.

The structure of Zetas is a very complicated one. They say that the cartel has several levels, but they virtually represent various formats of the ground forces - the lowest combat mass of the cartel. They are Los Halcones (the Falcons) - local civilian followers of the cartel who observe the situation in the territories of their control. The Falcons are commanded by the Cobras, also civil personnel.

The so-called New Zetas are the groups of military men from other countries, for example Guatemala, who started working for the cartel. The Old Zetas are those who joined the cartel from GAFE at the end of the 1990s.

These groups make the core of the organization. There are separate regional special groups like the Scorpions, created by local cartel comandante. As a matter of fact, the structure of the cartel is much more complicated. It consists of multiple autonomous groups. The failure or destruction of one of those groups does not affect the work of other links.

"Money, honor and respect are most important for us. We run drug business, and we urge the Mexican and US authorities not to put obstacles for our business. You will not be able to destroy us for one reason. Los Zetas knows everything about the work of police and special services. Special services and police know nothing about the activities of Los Zetas," Arturo Desena, the founder of Los Zetas, a former lieutenant, said.

It appears that Washington will never struggle with the drug business because it destabilizes the financial system of the United States. The system is based on multi-billion "drug investments" from all over the world. Antonio Maria Costa, the head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, said several years ago that it was drug cartels that rescued many banks during the crisis of 1998. World's largest drug cartels transferred $352 billion to banks during the hardest period of the crisis, the official said.

The proceeds of organised crime were "the only liquid investment capital" available to some banks on the brink of collapse in 1998. "Inter-bank loans were funded by money that originated from the drugs trade and other illegal activities... There were signs that some banks were rescued that way," Costa told Observer in 2009. A majority of the $352 billion of drugs profits was absorbed into the economic system as a result, he added.

According to Costa, drug cartels rescued the banks of Great Britain, the USA, Switzerland and Italy.

Drugs became a national disaster for the United States a long time ago. It also seems to be a good way to control the population. As many as ten million Americans take cocaine on a regular basis (daily), according to official stats. Up to 40 million more people do cocaine less frequently. If their doses are taken away from them, the country will plunge into chaos.

The War Business

Ruin & Rebuild:

Warfare worth $300bln Libya windfall

Libya has big plans for its post-war future, hoping to be reborn as the next Dubai and having all the necessary sun and beaches, with oil reserves aplenty. British companies are likely to come out on top of those lining up for a piece of the action.

It was France and the UK who initially led the effort to topple Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. Britain, together with France, sent their navy and fighter jets to establish a sea blockade and assault military targets on Libyan territory.

Now the National Transitional Council (NTC) of Libya says its friends will be rewarded – and these are not just words.

In the last two weeks, the UK Department for Trade and Industry led a working party to Libya to look around at what needed rebuilding. The British government department estimates that Libyan contracts, in sectors from oil and gas to education and construction, could be worth some $315 billion over the next decade.

Oil firms Shell and BP have already held talks with the Libyan transitional government, which pledged to honor the Gaddafi-era contracts with them.

Now the NTC delegation is in London to hold talks with top business executives on the “massive opportunity to rebuild Libya.”

All this directly correlates between efforts to oust Gaddafi and contracts that are rewarded afterwards, reports RT's Laura Smith from London.

Earlier it was the turn of German companies that expressed interest in taking part in effort to re-build Libya, but the NTC said “no” to them. It was sort of “You did not participate in bombing and the no-fly zone, and since you did not take part in that, you will have no business opportunities either.”

Exactly the same picture was seen in post-war Iraq, where French companies attempted to get into business, but were bluntly rejected. And that served to the French as a very illustrative example of how they should act the next time such “opportunity” arose. In Iraq the majority of contracts were granted to the US and the UK companies.

It was quite transparent from the very beginning of the “humanitarian operation” that since it has the biggest proven oil reserves in Africa, Libya would have money to fund a rebuilding by the winner.

Even before the operation started there were rumors that the NTC had promised French oil firm Total up to 35 per cent of all oil contracts if Paris sent warplanes to Libya and supported the Council.

French officials later denied that such an arrangement ever existed, but the oil giant is now well on track to launching onshore extraction early next year. The company confirmed that it did not need to renegotiate its contracts signed under Gaddafi.

For the UK, which looks to be one of the major players in the operation, it looks like an excellent business, too. The estimates vary as to how much the war in Libya cost the UK – something about $500 million – but the sum of the contracts are already known and they exceed the expenditures by far.

With hundreds of billions dollars in contracts up for grabs, Libya’s bombardment looks like an excellent investment from any perspective. With the exception of those who count in the moral cost of thousands of Libyans killed in the bloody civil war with NATO’s direct support.

Sukant Chandan – a spokesman for British Civilians For Peace in Libya however is convinced the fighting will not stop. There are tribes within the country who are strongly against selling the natural resources of Libya to the former colonial powers.

“What we are going to see is an increase in the inter-tribal warfare which has a political content,” he told RT. “It is not just inter-tribal, it represents forces which want Libya to return to independence and what “The Financial Times” called “the resource nationalism of Gaddafi’s government

Iran vs Israel

What The Media Wants You To Forget

The corporate media have been given their orders to throw the focus back on to Iran.

Here is a recap of what they are trying to make you forget.

1. Rose Gottemoeller, an assistant secretary of state and Washington's chief nuclear arms negotiator, asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel refused.

2. The United Nations passed a resolution calling on Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to submit to inspections. Israel refused.

3. The IAEA asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to submit to inspections. Israel refused.

4. Iran's formal notification to the IAEA of the planned construction of the backup fuel-rod facility underscores that Iran is playing by the rules of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which Iran has signed.

5. Iran allows IAEA inspections of all its facilities.

6. Contrary to face-saving claims, it appears that the US and Israel were both caught off guard by Iran's announcement of a planned underground (to avoid being bombed) enrichment facility. The reasoning is simple. Had the US or Israel announced the existence of he new facility before Iran's notified the IAEA, it would have put Iran on the defensive. As it is now, the US and Israel seem to be playing catch up, casting doubt on the veracity of Israel's claims to "know" that Iran is a nuclear threat.

7. The IAEA and all 16 United States Intelligence Agencies are unanimous in agreement that Iran is not building and does not possess nuclear weapons.

8. In 1986, Mordachai Vanunu blew the whistle and provided photographs showing Israel's clandestine nuclear weapons factory underneath the reactor at Dimona.

9. Israel made the same accusations against Iraq that it is making against Iran, leading up to Israel's bombing of the power station at Osirik. Following the invasion of 2003, international experts examined the ruins of the power station at Osirik and found no evidence of a clandestine weapons factory in the rubble.

10. The United Nations released the Goldstone Report, a scathing report which accuses Israel of 37 specific war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza earlier this year. Israel has denounced the report as "Anti-Semitic (even though Judge Goldstone is himself Jewish), and the United States will block the report from being referred to the War Crimes Tribunal at the Hague, thereby making the US Government an accessory after-the-fact.

11. Recently revealed documents prove not only that Israel has nuclear weapos, but actually tried to sell some to Apartheid South Africa. Who else Israel approached to sell nuclear weapons remains an unasked question.

12. In 1965, Israel stole over 200-600 pounds of weapons-grade uranium from the United States.

13. Declassified documents from the former South African regime prove not only that Israel has had nuclear weapons for decades, but has tried to sell them to other countries!

We need to stand up and scream, "LIAR!" at every politician and every talking media moron that is pushing this war in Iran. And we need to keep dong it until they get the message that we will not be deceived any more.

Evil Evil Woman

Hillary Clinton

and the New American (Pacific) Century
Secret no more, US moves openly to block the rise of China.

by Tony Cartalucci

November 16, 2011 - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently published in Foreign Policy magazine, "America's Pacific Century," a Hitlerian declaration of imperial intent for American "leadership" in Asia for the next 100 years. The piece, which could just as easily been penned by Neo-Con policy makers begins with, "the future of politics will be decided in Asia, not Afghanistan or Iraq, and the United States will be right at the center of the action. "

Of course, America's presence throughout the Middle East and the control it exercises over the region's oil resources as well as over the region as a logistical hub is essential in tempering the rise of Asia and ultimately hemming in the rise of China and Central Asia. The "Arab Spring" which Secretary Clinton and the US State Department had been a part of preparing, equipping, training, and even arming for at least 2 years prior, is the coup de grâce meant to completely overturn the multi-polar nature of the Middle East and ultimately the world.

Upon reading Clinton's declaration of intent for American leadership into the next century, readers may recall the similarly named, ranting "Project for a New American Century" signed off on by some of America's most notorious Neo-Conservatives, which almost verbatim made the same case now made by Clinton. In fact, America's evolving confrontation with China, marked acutely by Obama's announcement of a permanent US military presence in Australia just this week, is torn directly from the pages of decades old blueprints drawn up by corporate-financier funded think-tanks that truly rule America and its destiny.

As reported in June, 2011's "Collapsing China," as far back as 1997 there was talk about developing an effective containment strategy coupled with the baited hook of luring China into its place amongst the "international order." Just as in these 1997 talking-points where author and notorious Neo-Con policy maker Robert Kagan described the necessity of using America's Asian "allies" as part of this containment strategy, Clinton goes through a list of regional relationships the US is trying to cultivate to maintain "American leadership" in Asia.

For example, the recently reinstalled Wall Street proxy regime in Thailand led by Thaksin Shinawatra and his sister Yingluck, has received reassurances by Clinton herself just this week stating that, "it is in the national security and political interest of the United States to have this government succeed." As reported in-depth in "CONFIRMED: Thailand's "Pro-Democracy" Movement Working for US," Thaksin Shinawatra and his political regime have had long standing, well documented ties to Wall Street and London. The US backing of puppet-regimes like Thaksin, installing them into power, and keeping them there is central to projecting power throughout Asia and keeping China subordinate, or as Kagan put it in his 1997 report, these proxy regimes will have China "play Gulliver to Southeast Asia's Lilliputians, with the United States supplying the rope and stakes."

It is essential to look past the empty rhetoric of "democracy," "human rights," and "progress" used to justify foreign-funding and meddling to install servile autocrats like Thailand's Thaksin or Malaysia's stooge dictator-in-waiting Anwar Ibrahim and see the greater geopolitical game at play and the disastrous conclusion it is leading us all toward. It is also essential to expose the disingenuous organizations, institutions, and media personalities helping promote this global corporate-fascist agenda. Above all, it is important not to allow ourselves and our countrymen to be manipulated and their lives wasted in the inevitable conflicts that are sure to arise as Wall Street and London struggle to maintain, or even expand their global financial, economic, and military hegemony.

We Are The Many

Lyrics and Music by Makana, Makana Music LLC © 2011

Lyrics

Ye come here, gather 'round the stage
The time has come for us to voice our rage
Against the ones who've trapped us in a cage
To steal from us the value of our wage

From underneath the vestiture of law
The lobbyists at Washington do gnaw
At liberty, the bureaucrats guffaw
And until they are purged, we won't withdraw

We'll occupy the streets
We'll occupy the courts
We'll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

Our nation was built upon the right
Of every person to improve their plight
But laws of this Republic they rewrite
And now a few own everything in sight

They own it free of liability
They own, but they are not like you and me
Their influence dictates legality
And until they are stopped we are not free

We'll occupy the streets
We'll occupy the courts
We'll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

You enforce your monopolies with guns
While sacrificing our daughters and sons
But certain things belong to everyone
Your thievery has left the people none

So take heed of our notice to redress
We have little to lose, we must confess
Your empty words do leave us unimpressed
A growing number join us in protest

We occupy the streets
We occupy the courts
We occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

You can't divide us into sides
And from our gaze, you cannot hide
Denial serves to amplify
And our allegiance you can't buy

Our government is not for sale
The banks do not deserve a bail
We will not reward those who fail
We will not move till we prevail

We'll occupy the streets
We'll occupy the courts
We'll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

We'll occupy the streets
We'll occupy the courts
We'll occupy the offices of you
Till you do
The bidding of the many, not the few

We are the many
You are the few

The Israel Lobby

For many years now the American foreign policy has been characterized by the strong tie between the United States and Israel. Does the United States in fact keep Israel on its feet? And how long will it continue to do so?

In March 2006 the American political scientists John Mearsheimer (University of Chicago) and Steve Walt (Harvard) published the controversial article 'The Israel Lobby and US foreign policy'. In it they state that it is not, or no longer, expedient for the US to support and protect present-day Israel.

This documentary sheds light on both parties involved in the discussion: those who wish to maintain the strong tie between the US and Israel, and those who were critical of it and not infrequently became 'victims' of the lobby.

The question arises to what extend the pro-Israel lobby ultimately determines the military and political importance of Israel itself. Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson (Colin Powell's former chief-of-staff) explains how the lobby's influence affects the decision-making structure in the White House.

With political scientist John Mearsheimer, neocon Richard Perle, lobby organization AIPAC, televangelist John Hagee, historian Tony Judt, Human Rights Watch director Kenneth Roth, colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, Democrat Earl Hilliard, Israeli peace negotiator Daniel Levy and investigative journalist Michael Massing.

Why We Fight

Why We Fight describes the rise and maintenance of the United States military-industrial complex and its involvement in the wars led by the United States during the last fifty years, and in particular in the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. The film alleges that in every decade since World War II, the American public has been told a lie to bring it into war to fuel the military-economic machine, which in turn maintains American dominance in the world. It includes interviews with John McCain, Chalmers Johnson, Richard Perle, William Kristol, Gore Vidal and Joseph Cirincione. The film also incorporates the stories of a Vietnam War veteran whose son died in the September 11, 2001 attacks and then had his son's name written on a bomb dropped on Iraq; a 23-year old New York man who enlists in the United States Army citing his financial troubles after his only family member died; and a former Vietnamese refugee who now develops explosives for the American military.

Crossing The Line

A List Of US ‘Pressures’ On Israel

By Sami Kishawi, 9 November, 2011

The U.S. Speaker of the House has had enough. According to Haaretz, Republican John Boehner, a staunch supporter of everything Israeli, declared his disapproval of the current administration’s policies, stating that Barack Obama’s pressure on Israel crosses the line.

To better understand Boehner’s mindset, I decided to compile a non-comprehensive list of pressures Obama is allegedly directing towards Israel.

In 2011, under the policies implemented by the Obama Administration, each American taxpayer will pay $21.59 in military aid to Israel.

By the end of the 2011 fiscal year, Obama will have given Israel $3 billion in foreign military financing. By the end of Obama’s four years as President, he will have given Israel between $11.41 and $12 billion in military aid alone. This is enough to provide over 9.2 million Americans with guaranteed primary care for ten years.

Since 2007, military aid to Israel has increased by roughly $150 million every year, and the Obama administration has yet to alter this policy in any way.

In March 2010, Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met for a private meeting. Obama proposed a plan to Netanyahu that involved halting settlement building. Netanyahu responded with a flowchart diagram demonstrating that permission for settlement expansion does not go directly through him and that, as a result, he lacks knowledge of these plans and is unable to adequately intervene. Settlement building continues today.

In 2009, Obama ordered a 10-month settlement freeze during which he allowed Israel to immediately construct 3,000 housing units in occupied East Jerusalem and to further expand illegal settlements and outposts in the West Bank. By the end of the freeze, Israel had begun construction on 1,600 more housing units in Jerusalem.

At the beginning of his term, Obama authorized the sale of 55 “bunker busters” to Israel. The sale of these 5,000-pound penetrating bombs was kept under wraps for over two years in an effort to quell any suspicion that Israel might be preparing for war with Iran.

After Palestine’s successful UNESCO bid, Obama withdrew a total of $80 million worth of funding to the United Nations agency as a show of support for Israel’s rejection of Palestinian self-sovereignty.

Since the failure of the peace talks in 2010, Obama has repeatedly promised to veto or undermine any and every attempt at a unilateral declaration of Palestinian independence.

Obama has yet to break his silence after Israeli commandos stormed the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and killed nine unarmed activists, one of whom was an American citizen.

In March 2010, the Obama administration proposed a bill to fund Israel with $205 million for the purchase of ten Iron Dome batteries. H.R. 5327 was passed by the House of Representatives two months later.

The Obama administration, in 2010, approved a deal to sell to Israel twenty F-35 fighter jets to be purchased entirely with American tax dollars. The fighter jets are all custom-designed to meet the requirements of the Israeli Air Force.

In July 2010, the Secretary of State’s office reaffirmed Obama’s commitment to preserving Israel’s qualitative military edge in the Middle East.

Israel is permitted to accrue interest on American donations once the funds are disbursed to the Federal Reserve Bank. The collected interest can be used to pay off any outstanding Israeli debts to America.

Since 2009, Obama has spent at least $55 million on “resettlement” projects for Jews wishing to move to Israel.

During Obama’s first year in office, his administration authorized a $3.9 million donation to help sustain Israeli schools and hospitals. First, this amount ties for the largest donation ever awarded to this particular project by any American President. Second, Obama has yet to allocate funds for Palestinian schools and hospitals.

Obama received praise from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), American Jewish Committee (AJC), and Netanyahu himself after working to protect Israeli diplomats during a rally in front of the Israeli embassy in Cairo.

Keeping this information in mind, it becomes clear to see why Boehner is so dissatisfied with Obama: this aid isn’t good enough. If Israel intends to maintain a siege on Gaza, operate hundreds of checkpoints within the West Bank, forcefully remove tens of thousands of indigenous Bedouin from their homes in the Negev, launch an assault on Iran, establish a lobby organization to frame Iran as the aggressor, build statues of Gilad Shalit, expand dozens of settlements and outposts, finish construction of the Apartheid Wall, purchase state-of-the-art bulldozers to uproot Palestinian olive trees, design military gear for late-night abduction missions in Ramallah, train an entire army on how to almost sink Flotilla boats, and pay more students to eat Sabra hummus, then it needs all the money and support it can get.

US Bid To Overturn

Ban On Cluster Bombs

Britain is backing a US-led plan to torpedo the global ban on cluster bombs, in what MPs and arms campaigners fear is an attempt to legitimise the use of weapons that are widely deemed to be inherently indiscriminate.

Why this is especially evil is that the United States, during Afghanistan, made the cluster bomb sub-munitions with the same color and type face as the emergency food packets being air dropped on towns. So kids who could not read English picked up the cluster bomb sub-munitions thinking they were food and blew their hands off.

An Open Letter From

Anonymous To The Government Of Israel

Greetings government of Israel,

As the world has witnessed today your Navy soldiers boarded the vessels which were en-route to the Gaza Strip, attempting to break the illegal maritime security blockade placed by you to hurt the people of Gaza in the name of counter terrorism.

Two Irish-Canadian flotilla ships - Canadian Tahrir (Liberation), and the Irish Saoirse (Freedom) - with 27 passengers from nine countries on board were approaching Gaza in a peaceful and humanitarian mission. They were not inside Israeli territories, and are not carrying any weapons. These boats were captured by your navy exactly at 15:59 Gaza Time; the vessels were about 35 NM outside Gaza, which is INTERNATIONAL WATERS at the time of capture. This is a clear sign of piracy on the high seas. Furthermore, UN resolution 3005 states, that all resources (so also the sea) and natural wealth falls under the control of residents of Gaza.

Your actions are illegal, against democracy, human rights, international, and maritime laws. Justifying war, murder, illegal interception, and pirate-like activities under an illegal cover of defense will not go unnoticed by us or the people of the world.

We do not tolerate this kind of repeated offensive behavior against unarmed civilians. We along with 127 countries recognize Palestine as a state for people of Palestine and such acts by you and your military are acts of war against another sovereign nation.

If you continue blocking humanitarian vessels to Gaza or repeat the dreadful actions of May 31st, 2010 against any Gaza Freedom Flotillas then you will leave us no choice but to strike back. Again and again, until you stop.

We are Anonymous,
We are legion,
We do not forget,
We do not forgive,
Expect us.

Ten Big Israeli Lies

Michel Collon, a Belgian journalist and author, in his book “Israel, let’s talk about it,” has slammed European media over decades of “lying” to people in order to support Israel.

Collon, in his book, has recounted “10 big lies” spread by Western media in order to “justify the existence and actions of Israel”, which are concisely presented below:

1. The first lie is that Israel was established in reaction to the massacre of Jews during the World War II.

This notion is completely wrong. Israel is in fact a domineering project which was approved in the First Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland, in 1897, when nationalist Jews decided to occupy Palestine.

2. The second justification for establishing and legitimizing Israel is that the Jews are returning to their forefathers’ land, from where they had been driven away in 70 A.D.

This is a tale. I have spoken to the famous Israeli historian Shlomo Sand and other historians and they all believe that there has been no “exodus,” so “return” is meaningless. The people living in Palestine have not left their land in the ancient era.

In fact the descendents of Jews residing in Palestine are the people who are currently living in Palestine. Those who claim they want to return to their lands originate for Western and Eastern Europe and Northern Africa.

Sand says there is no Jewish nation. The Jews do not have common history, language or culture. The only common thing between them is their religion, and religion does not make a nation.

3. The third lie is that when Jewish immigrants occupied Palestine, it was an empty and uninhibited country.

However, there are documents and evidences that prove that in the 19th century the agricultural products of Palestine were exported to different countries, including France.

4. Fourth, some people say Palestinians left their country on their own free will.

This is another lie, which lots of people believed, including myself. Until Israeli historians like Benny Morris and Ilan Pappe said that Palestinians were driven away and banished from their lands by using force and terror.

5. It is said that today Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East and it should be protected; it is the “government of law.”

But in my opinion not only it is not the government of law; it is the only regime that no law defines its territory and boundaries. All the countries of the world have a constitution which defines their boundaries, but no such thing applies to Israel. Israel is an expansionist project which knows no boundary, and its law is completely racist; according to this law Israel is the country for Jews, and its non-Jew citizens are not considered human. Such law is a contradiction to democracy.

6. It is said that the US tries to protect democracy in the Middle East by protecting Israel.

And we know that the US annual financial aid to Israel amounts to 3 billion dollars. This money is used for bombarding Israel’s neighbor countries. But America is not after establishing democracy in the Middle East; it wants the undisturbed flow of oil.

7. They pretend that the US seeks an agreement between Israel and Palestine.

This is also completely wrong and a lie. EU former Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana told the Israel that “you are the 21st country of the European Union.” The European weapons industries cooperate with the Israeli military industries and support them financially. But when Palestinians elected their government, Europe did not recognize it and gave the green light to Israel to attack the Gaza Strip.

8. When one talks about these facts and the history of Israel and Palestine, when one reveals the US interests in this situation, they call you anti-Semite to keep you silent.

But we should say that when we criticize Israel, it is not racism or anti-Semitism. We criticize a government that does not believe in the equality of Jews, Christians and Muslims, and so destroys the peace between followers of different religions.

9. The mass media say that Palestinians cause violence and terrorism.

We say Israel army’s occupation is violence, the policy that has stolen land and home from Palestinians is violence.

10. An issue which is often raised is that there is no way for resolving this situation, and there is no solution for the hatred and the grudge caused by Israel and its accomplices.

But there is a solution. The only thing that can stop this process is the public pressure on the accomplices of Israel in the US and Europe and other parts of the world; public pressure on the mass media which refrain from telling the truth about Israel; and using the Internet or any other media out let to publish real news about Palestine.

The Vultures

Western Mercenaries

and Corporations Pouring Into Libya

Glen Ford Black Agenda Report November 4

Western security firms – a polite term for mercenary outfits – are cramming planes into Libya to make the country safe for an invasion of western capitalists, the real beneficiaries of NATO’s war. So frenzied is the crush of war capitalists and their hired gunmen seeking to cash in on the Libyan catastrophe, the New York Times tell us a $5 cab ride from Tripoli’s airport to downtown hotels now costs $800. The head of the U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce calls it a “gold rush,” as officials of the government established by force of NATO airpower lay out the red carpet for the foreign hordes. Libya’s nominal new rulers in the Transitional National Council are in a rush to sell off the nation's birthright before they've even got it in their hands.

The huge influx of big, burley western mercenaries is most ironic, since the so-called rebels’ principal call to arms was that Moammar Gaddafi was maintained in power by paid gunmen from sub-Saharan Africa. They used the false specter of a black mercenary presence to turn the rebellion into a race war that claimed the lives of untold thousands of black Libyans and immigrant workers – an ethnic cleansing that no doubt still unfolds and will forever mark the new regime as racist to its core. That same regime now embraces a real world invasion of Euro-American mercenaries. White and money, indeed, makes right, in the new Libya.

The bodies of the dead had not yet been buried in Sirte, the seaside city virtually leveled by months of NATO bombing – and where all of the citizens’ vehicles were stolen by riotous rebel gunmen – before trade delegations from France and Britain began descending on Tripoli. The French, who were so eager to be first in aggressive, unprovoked war, made sure they were also first in line to get a piece of the spoils. A delegation of businessmen from 80 French companies arrived a whole week before their Libyan hosts’ gunmen butchered Col. Gaddafi and scores of other prisoners. We’re sure the French raised glasses of champagne to mark the occasion.

Of course, foreigners and their money were all over Tripoli before the Europeans and Americans decided that a Shock and Awe assault on Libya would put them in a better position to deal with the uncertainties of the Arab Spring. Foreign investment in Libya increased 25-fold between 2002 and 2010. Gaddafi, by all accounts, had come to an accommodation with foreign capital. European and Asian corporations were transforming the face of Tripoli. Corporate logos on countless construction sites testified to Gaddafi’s determination to “normalize” relations with the imperial powers and the world in general. In recent years, he released from prison hundreds of Islamic fighters, as part of that “normalization.” It would be his undoing.

So, before NATO’s war, there was no question of western access to Libya – and certainly no threat of withholding oil. It is not access, but the terms of access, that makes the difference between war and peace with imperialism. For the Americans, the French and the British, the price of peace is one’s national sovereignty. Oh – and keeping out the Chinese, 30,000 of whom were forced to leave Libya when the bombs started falling. It is doubtful that they will be back in such numbers, until after the current regime is, itself, overthrown.

G 20

Posted: 2 November 2011

It's unbelievable. The G20 -- the most powerful summit of world governments -- meets tomorrow to discuss the global economic crisis, and who is sponsoring the meeting? Banks and corporations!

No wonder the site of the meeting -- the French city of Cannes -- is completely locked down to any ordinary citizens, while banks and large corporate CEOs have all access passes to tell our governments what to do.

Corporations and banks have captured our governments, winning vast bailouts after helping to create the crisis. Now they are buying their way into the very meeting that could decide the world's financial future. Together we can persuade summit President Nicolas Sarkozy to cancel the sponsorship -- let's build a massive public outcry that causes a media firestorm and forces Sarkozy to kick out the corporate sponsors and clean up the G20. Sign the petition and forward widely:

Israel Said "No"

US: Screw UNESCO

By Sami Kishawi, October 31, 2011

Watch as reporter Matthew Lee with the Associated Press questions State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland on the United States’ apparent disappointment with the UNESCO vote that welcomed Palestine as its newest full member state. The questions are straightforward and logical, and it becomes clear that the Obama administration is only concerned with Israel’s one-sided demands. The spokesperson eventually ends the questioning after being unable to address even the most basic loopholes in the United States’ stance.

Note: This article appeared on a blog titled Sixteen Minutes to Palestine. At this point there was an embedded video of the full interchange between reporter Matthew Lee and US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland. The video shows but will not play on the article. It was uploaded to YouTube and restricted from embedding by Reuters and must be viewed on YouTube. Though the full transcript of its content is below, it well worth watching while reading to observe how reporters should be reporters and US State Department spokespeople wiggle as lies are spun. Click here to open a separate window and follow on YouTube.

TRANSCRIPT

Victoria Nuland: Today’s vote by the member states of UNESCO to admit Palestine as a member is regrettable, premature, and undermines our shared goal of a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East. The United States remains steadfast in its support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state. But such a state can only be realized through direct negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians. The United States also remains strongly committed to robust multilateral engagement across the UN system. However, Palestinian membership as a state in UNESCO triggers longstanding legislative restrictions which will compel the United States to refrain from making contributions to UNESCO. US engagement with UNESCO serves a wide range of our national interests on education, science, culture, and communications issues. THe US will maintain its membership in and committment to UNESCO, and we will consult with Congress to ensure that US interest and influence are preserved.

Reporter: Does that mean that you have stopped, effectively, today contributing to UNESCO?

Victoria Nuland: It does.

Reporter: It does.

Victoria Nuland: We were to have made a sixty million dollar payment to UNESCO in November, and we will not be making that payment.

Reporter: Sorry, sixty million?

Victoria Nuland: Sixty million.

Reporter: And that is part of a traunch of the total of eighty?

Victoria Nuland: Correct.

Reporter: Alright. So, this is not particularly a banner day for US diplomacy. If you count the abstentions, you had a hundred and fifty-nine countries did not vote the way you did. But only thirteen did. That would seem to suggest that these countries don’t agree with you that this is such a big problem. Those countries included the French, France. They included numerous members of the Security Council. What happens to them? Now that you’re punishing UNESCO, what happens to these countries that voted in this “regrettable” way that is going to undermine the peace process?

Victoria Nuland: Those countries obviously made their own national decisions on this vote. We disagree with them. We made clear that we disagree with them before the vote. We make clear that we disagree with them after the vote. We also make clear here today that we want to continue our relationship with UNESCO. But as we said before this vote and as we have had to say, legislative restrictions compell us to withhold our funding now, and that will have an impact on UNESCO.

Reporter: But going back to what you said in your opening, you said that this was regrettable, premature, and undermines our shared goal. Whose shared goal? Who shares this goal other than the thirteen other countries that voted with you, now.

Victoria Nuland: Countries all over the international system share the goal of a Palestinian state in secure borders —

Reporter: Why would they possibly do something, how could they possibly do something that you say is so horrible and detrimental to that process. How can you still count on them as sharing this goal?

Victoria Nuland: You’ll have to speak to them about why they made the decision that they made. We considered that this was, as I said, regrettable, premature, and undermines the prospect of getting where we want to go. And that’s what we’re concerned about.

Reporter: Okay, and how does it undermine exactly the prospect of where you want to go?

Victoria Nuland: The concern is that it creates tensions when all of us should be concerting our efforts to get the parties back to the table.

Reporter: The only thing it does is it upsets Israel and it triggers this law that you said will require you to stop funding UNESCO. Is there anything else? There’s nothing that changes on the ground, is there?

Victoria Nuland: Our concern is that this could exacerbate the environment which we are trying to work through so that the parties will get back to the table.

Reporter: How exactly does it exacerbate the environment if it changes nothing on the ground unlike, say, construction of settlements. It changes nothing on the ground. It gives Palestine membership in UNESCO, which was a body the US was so unconcerned about for many years that it wasn’t even a member.

Victoria Nuland: Well, I think you know that this administration is committed to UNESCO, rejoined UNESCO, wants to see UNESCO’s work go forward.

Reporter: Actually, it was the last administration that rejoined UNESCO, not this one. But I need to have some kind of clarity on how this undermines the peace process — other than the fact that it upsets Israel.

Victoria Nuland: Again, we are trying to get both of these parties back to the table. That’s what we’ve been doing all along. That was the basis for the President’s speech in May, basis of the diplomacy that the Quartet did through the summer, the basis of the statement that the Quartet came out with in September. So in that context, we have been trying to improve the relationship between these parties, improve the environment between them, and we are concerned that we exacerbate tensions with this, and it makes it harder to get the parties back to the table.

Reporter: Since the talks broke off last September until today, how many times have they met together, with all your effort?

Victoria Nuland: How many times have the parties met?

Reporter: Yes.

Victoria Nuland: I think you know the answer to that question.

Reporter: Correct.

Victoria Nuland: It doesn’t change the fact that we are committed —

Reporter: So how can things get worse than they already are?

Victoria Nuland: Matt, I think you’re engaged in a polemic here rather than questions.
